Internships – why?
Posted by justinarium on November 28, 2007
Good news – I got my internship this week! It’s really the last requirement I need to complete my degree. Granted, I still have coursework, but I was really worried about how I was getting an internship that would allow me to work my regular job at the same time.
Some of the degree programs at the University of Pittsburgh require you to complete an internship for graduation. That works out great if you’re a traditional student, who doesn’t have any experience, doesn’t need to worry about bills or money. However, for someone like me, who MUST work to eat and doesn’t have parental support, this ‘requirement’ proves a little difficult (and no, they don’t waive it).
Honestly, I lucked out though. I’ll be completing a project at the Berg Center for Business Ethics, part of the Joseph Katz Graduate School for Business at Pitt. I’ll be doing some public relations writing for them, as well as putting together some brochures for recruitment – great portfolio material.
I’m hyped up on caffeine, so I’m rambling.
