What is Twitter and How Can I Use It?
I recently spoke to the IABC/University of Pittsburgh group regarding the importance of online portfolio building. One of the students came up with a question, “I don’t understand the concept of Twitter. Can you explain it to me?”
I outlined the layout of Twitter, discussed how members utilize it and how it integrates with multiple platforms. He still looked a bit confused and I don’t feel he truly understood. (I met with him after the discussion and cleared up a lot of confusion.)
I am not an avid Twitter user. I use it more because I find what others share interesting, rather than me sharing with others (perhaps I need to make a better attempt). And, I find so much information I sift through it all, determining what is actually of use and what isn’t. I find it important, however, to contribute to the online network accordingly. So, I ‘tweet’ sometimes, when I find things of interest, to share with the rest of my followers.
To help with all of this, I did some research and came across a recent article from SS PR Public Relations in regards to what Twitter is and how it even baffles PR professionals. I also included some other links which I found helpful in describing how to (and not to) best utilize Twitter to it’s full potential:
